Coming Back after Injury

I really messed up!  I did not want to over-do with regard to my training after knee surgery.  After 7 months of rehab, I was feeling really good with no pain.  However, I did over-do it and actually pushed the medial meniscus on my left knee out of place.  Running the curves in the 200 and 400 did it.  I had been doing my rehab with 100 yards on the football field and had not run any speed workouts on the track yet.  Mistake!

My Sports Doc got me back together but Mistake #2 was allowing myself to get depressed because I could not do the workouts on the track and had to use the exercise bike and the Precor. Then, came Mistake #3: I quit working out all together for about 4 months!

Now, I am on my 5th week of coming back with workouts on the bike and precor. And, I have actually been able to run 150s and 200s at about 75%.  Bringing the conditioning back is the hardest!  Lesson Learned: Do what your body will allow during re-hab.  Don't Over-do.  But, don't Under-do, either.  It's more about mental strength and resolve than it is physical ability during rehab.  I gained about 15 lbs during the "re-hab" time.  I guess we can call it re-flab.  I have lost about 5 of that now and feeling much better about things.

The other night, I ran three 200s with a 6 minute interval.  Times were 34, 33, 32.  I am aiming for 28s.
